MCR Property Group has bought the long leasehold of a hostel in Holland Park from Safestay, which held the lease until now. MCR paid £3m for the interest.

The hostel occupies three buildings. One is the east wing of the park's original Jacobean house, which is listed and dates to 1605. A newer block was added as an extension in the 1950s. Rooms are standard, ensuite and group.

MCR plans to refurbish the property and reposition it as LOOP London, a brand built around the idea of staying in the loop. The company says it wants to combine considered design, a social atmosphere and good-value rooms that help guests feel connected to the city.

MCR's existing London hospitality team will manage the hostel. That team already runs The Kensington Collection, a group of hotel rooms and serviced apartments in Kensington, Knightsbridge and Belgravia.

The company describes its approach as buying well-located assets, building strategy and delivery capability in-house, investing quickly and creating operating platforms that can grow beyond one property.

For Safestay, the sale fits a shift towards an asset-light model in which it does not own its hostel buildings. It sold its Glasgow hostel for £5.1m in June 2026 and has said it will close a Berlin hostel when the contract ends at the close of 2026.
