Amey set for £42m DLR Thamesmead extension early works
DLR has chosen Amey Rail for an early works package worth up to £42m on the planned 3km Docklands Light Railway extension to Thamesmead.

Amey Rail has been picked for early works on the Docklands Light Railway extension to Thamesmead, in a package worth up to £42m. DLR, a Transport for London subsidiary, made the selection under TfL's Infrastructure Improvement Framework.
The work is split into three stages. In the first, Amey will mobilise, review the programme and its assumptions, identify risks, define the early works and scope the surveys. The initial commitment covers bringing the contractor in early to scope the works.
A second stage would carry out agreed surveys and investigations, set the scope of enabling works and settle costs, programme and commercial terms. The third stage would deliver the defined early works before main construction starts. The survey and enabling stages depend on affordability, approvals and contractual conditions.
The initial contract is due to be signed within two weeks. It runs to October 2028 and could be extended to October 2030.
The extension is planned to leave the existing line at Gallions Reach in the Royal Docks, pass through Beckton Riverside and cross under the Thames to Thamesmead over 3km. The plans include a viaduct at Beckton Riverside that leads to a 1.5km twin-bore tunnel beneath the river.
Two stations are planned, at Beckton Riverside and Thamesmead Waterfront. Peabody has a 100-hectare regeneration site at Thamesmead Waterfront. The scheme has been forecast to support 30,000 new homes and add £15.6bn to London's economy.
