The Royal Borough of Greenwich has completed Kidbrooke Park Road, which it describes as the largest new 100% social housing development in the country. Tenants, councillors, MPs and Members of the Greater London Authority gathered to mark the completion.

The scheme has 452 homes with one to four bedrooms. They are for people on the council's housing register. Kidbrooke Park Road is part of the Greenwich Builds programme, which is to deliver 1,750 council homes. The programme has so far delivered over 1,000, with hundreds more under construction.

The development also has a nursery, retail space, several play areas and 200 newly planted trees. One in ten homes is wheelchair accessible. A sustainable energy centre supplies heat and hot water to all homes. The Greater London Authority part-funded the scheme, and it has won a Housing Design Award and the New London Architecture Mayor's Prize. It is in the running for a Royal Institute of British Architects prize.

Cllr Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, said: "It’s been a joy to hear the stories of how these new homes have improved the lives of the people living here, and to witness their joy at finally having a stable, affordable home to enable them to build positive, happy lives for the future."

Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor of London for Housing and Residential Development, said: "London is leading the way nationally on council home building, with half of all new council homes in England built in the capital last year, and more new council homes underway than at any time since the 1970s." He said Kidbrooke Park Road is the largest single entirely new-build council housing development in the country.

Ronan Murphy, CEO of Durkan Group, said: "It’s been a privilege to be a key delivery partner for Kidbrooke Park Road". Durkan worked with the council through Greenwich Builds.

The council says Royal Greenwich had the highest number of new affordable homes started of any London borough for three consecutive years from 2022 to 2025. It also reports a 42% reduction in wheelchair users on its housing waiting list and an 84% reduction in hotel use for temporary accommodation.
