A slice of history in Newry has just nabbed a four-star badge from Tourism Northern Ireland, with Tullymurry House—a self-catering country pile owned by the Irish Landmark Trust—stepping into the spotlight for the first time.
Nestled amid rolling countryside with the Mourne Mountains as its backdrop, this gated estate boasts roots stretching back to the 17th century.
“We are absolutely thrilled that Tullymurry House has been awarded four stars by Tourism Northern Ireland,” beams Niamh Lunny, CEO of the Irish Landmark Trust, eager to share its charm. “This is a truly special property, full of character and heritage, and we look forward to welcoming more guests to add to its story.”

Step inside, and you’re greeted by rooms kitted out to a plush standard, blending old-world vibes with modern perks.
A wellness centre packing a sauna, hot tub, and a sprawling relaxation zone—perfect for unwinding after soaking up the house’s storied past.
“This historic Irish country house style property is finished to an excellent standard and retains many traditional features combined with modern home comforts,” says Deborah Avery, Tourism NI’s senior certification officer, tipping her hat to the effort. “We are delighted to award Tullymurry House a four-star grade. This award is testament to the high-quality facilities and services offered to guests.”
The grading’s a big win under Tourism NI’s Quality Scheme, a stamp that promises top-notch digs, service, and cleanliness—running the gamut from hotels to self-catering spots like this, with five stars the ceiling.
“This is a very well-deserved award for the Irish Landmark Trust,” Avery adds, wishing the team more success, while Lunny’s buzzing about the boost it’ll bring.
